“4. Jazz expresses emotions or soul-searching characteristics while rock is assertive and exhibit sexual freedom….6. Jazz is complicated while rock is understandable”
Wow, what kind of incredibly musically UNdiscerning person is left to write this article. Tremendous disservice to those who are genuinely unfamiliar with either or both genres.

I mostly agree with Kaplan; whoever wrote this is without a great knowledge of music.

At least they did a better job than the bozo who wrote this:

If you’d like a decent comparison between Jazz and rock, try this one:

They’re not wrong…rock has become a pretty distasteful genre. And yes, jazz is rather complicated while rock is easier to understand. I’m going to have to take their side on this one.

I am agreement with your dissatisfaction with opinion of the articles author

In my opinion as a music undergraduate,my deduction from introductory study of African American music painted the white to have been overwhelmed by the whirlwind of inherent natural expressive energetic drive that’s associated with music performance of the black.

The white couldn’t withstand having their music play the second fiddle to black originated music, which was forcefully pushing towards dominance, hence, the move to create a music genre to counter its reign, haven come to a realization that the systematic affront of silencing the African musical expression could not succeed.

Rock is a product of research on these unique attributes of African music performance and expression, the research objective was targetted towards the development of a white originated musical genre that replicate these.

A close examination of rock music either from passive observation or active participation, reveals a conscious effort to create induced musical expression, the shouts and Jumps is to mimick the ring shout of the Negro Spiritual music.

Rock music is is only best as carbon copy of the African music expression.

You can play Jazz forever even if you are 100 years old and be taken seriously.
But With rock metal and pop it looks perverted when the 75 – 85 year old with tattoos doing the splits is still trying to pick up teenage girls who are now screaming at him to keep back..
