The world’s history is truly a marvel. You won’t know the truth unless you dig deeper into all the sorts of information out there. Since today is mostly a Web invasion, you can find all sorts of data you needed with just an Internet connection. I remember the time when our teacher talked about Egypt. I didn’t listen attentively because I have no interest in historic places. I only know that Egypt is a very hot place, a land of deserts, full of cactuses, no water, the hotspot for pyramids, and the burying place for a pharaoh. These are only a common knowledge. I won’t live in a place like that. Our teacher also mentioned Nubia. I couldn’t remember a single thing about Nubia because it doesn’t ring a bell. Somehow, Egypt and Nubia are related to each other.

The land of Egypt is found within the regions of northern Africa. Its surrounding borders are the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Libya, and Sudan. Today, there are about 69 million residents in Egypt with Islam as their main religion. Other residents in Egypt are Christians. Nubia, on the other hand, is located along the Nile river which is a part of northern Sudan and southern Egypt.

During the ancient times, Egypt envied Nubia because, in the latter’s land, you can find several useful raw materials. The land of Nubia is a rich one because it is a natural spring for gold and other natural minerals. Nubia is said to be the Land of Gold. Aside from that, the Nubians have acquired from the southern traders several raw materials like ivory, ebony, leopard skins, and incense.

Around 3000 BC, Egypt attempted to conquer the Land of Gold. Egypt had held numerous military expeditions to the southern regions. Today, you can find the memorial stone for King Aha of the First Dynasty. This indicates that Egypt was victorious in its feat of conquering Nubia.

Despite Egypt’s and Nubia’s conflicts, they still accepted each other’s cultural developments and agreed on mixed marriages. The high officials and priests of Egypt had settled in Nubia and built their temples there. One of the most impressive temples ever built during that time was the temple complex of Soleb. It was built under the rule of Amenophis III at around 1360 BC. Under the rule of Ramses II (I279-I212 BC), several rock temples were built like the Abu Simbel.

Though the Nubians and Egyptians were warring nations, the Nubians honored some Egyptian gods. The Egyptians too had honored some of the deities of the Nubians and added them to their beliefs and mythologies.

Even if the Egyptians had colonized the Nubian territories, the Nubians still accepted some of their influences.
