Agreed! This was the most uninformative synopsis I have ever come across.

The difference between the left wing and the right wing is simply what form of authoritatianism will be imposed on the people. The rest is sideshow arguing over the details.

The right leads to freedom and individual rights. The left leads to government controlled big brother watching your every move and you having no rights.

Example of a right government: Unites states of America – people are free, capitalist economy, people vote their leaders into limited power with checks and balances.

Example of a left government: USSR communist – people are ruled by a party and have limited freedoms, state owns everything economy, leaders are chosen by the party and have unlimited power.

As a lifelong liberal I will admit that the left wing at its extreme is tantamount to Communism; but the end product of right wing extremism is Facism!! That’s a total dictatorship with no governing bodies other than the dictator who makes all the rules and metes out all the punishments at his own discretion… Adolf Hitler proved how quickly a Facist government falls apart!! Communism is not much better in total for the people so why argue? Instead, why not compromise and find the middle ground? Well, most liberals will agree to this because liberals are more willing to compromise… Conservatives (today’s conservatives) have said bluntly and publicly that they will NOT compromise… it’s their way or no way!!
What kind of government is that?? Gridlock is mostly the responsibility of and caused by the Republicans because they refuse to compromise! Is that the kind of leadership you want?
Conservative Republicans are anti anything and everything that benefits workers and middle class families… Their basic economic belief is that big and small corporations create jobs and that they know best what’s good for the workers and their families…
Liberal Democrats believe that demand for products and services creates jobs, not less taxes for corporations.. and history has proven this over and over again but somehow, still, many middle class working families are fooled by the deceptive tactics used by the conservative talking heads who, if they told the truth would not get elected to dog catcher! Proof of this is what happened to Mitt Romney when someone recorded and then made public what Mitt truly believes about at least 47% of the middle class… He got caught telling the truth!! and many believe that he lost the election in 2012 because the truth came out!! Obama has not destroyed this country but rather the non-compromising, gridlock producing conservative republicans, if allowed to continue getting away with lying to the american people, will destroy this country!!

The idea of a linear left to right political spectrum is stupid, but in those terms, fascism would be left-wing.

Contrary to popular belief, fascism can be most accurately defined as the political belief that the state is more important than the individual. This belief is what allowed fascists to justify pursuing “racial purification” of humanity. They considered the individual rights of those they killed as less important than the greater good that they fervently believed would come to humanity through the supremacy of a certain race. Essentially, fascism focussed on community, rather than the individual, which is undoubtedly a hallmark of the left wing.

In fact, Nazi is an acronym for National SOCIALIST German Worker’s Party. (In German) Obviously a self-declared socialist worker’s party is very clearly left-wing.

Also, the right-wing is always considered to be more focused on religion than the left, and fascist states were bitterly opposed to religion. The Nazis actually set up a religion called positive christianity which incorporated racial elements and the swastika, and was intended to gradually move Germany away from Christianity toward “mystical Darwinist vitalism” based on ancient Vedic (aryan) rituals. Mussolini was forced to cooperate with the Catholic Church to some extent because the Italian people were overwhelmingly devout Catholics. However, on a personal level, Mussolini was always very contemptuous of religion, and often privately referred to priests as “black flies”.

Finally, when fascism was on the rise throughout Europe, it was the ideology of young liberals, based on bold new ideas like eugenics that conservatives shunned.

Looking at politics as left vs right is pointless. It is far more useful to look at a politician’s stance on specific issues than it is to assume that because they are right or left wing that you can safely vote for them.

    This is from Wikipedia:
Amongst published researchers, there is agreement that the Left includes anarchists, communists, socialists, progressives, anti-capitalists, anti-imperialists, democratic socialists, greens, left-libertarians, social democrats, and social liberals.[5][6][7]

Researchers have also said that the Right includes fascists, Nazis, capitalists, conservatives, monarchists, nationalists, neoconservatives, neoliberals, reactionaries, imperialists, right-libertarians, social authoritarians, religious fundamentalists, and traditionalists.[8]

How can anarchists and communists be on the same side in politics when what they completely opposite goals? The same goes for placing Libertarians and Fascists together on the right. How can libertarians be diametrically opposed to anarchists and social liberals when, while they would have disagreements, they actually have far more in common?

As for right-wing conservatives refusing to compromise, these tend to be the more libertarian-minded politicians who recognize that compromising from their position (from their opponents’ point of view) will almost always mean growing the size and scope of government. To a libertarian, this is not a compromise, but a failure to accomplish the goal of shrinking the government’s power.

The definition of Rightwing you present & some of the other Leftwingers here, are quite bogus. Also, if you’re going to use Nazi in your comment for Rightwing, then you must include Stalinite in your definition of Leftwing. Guess which killed more people? Most of you Leftwingers falsely identify Rightwing.

Right wing , wants a massive police state that controls dissidents like gays or blacks or non Christians. Limited economic regulations which in the end favor the owners of industry not the workers. Right wingers are also more patriarchal so women would have less rights .the right also is more religious and tends to support that right to rule is ordained by god. The Right wing is also more hawkish. Only those with money and power would have a voice as right wingers tend to support oligarchy or divine right to rule trust me they use this line all the time.

That’s a crock. The right could care less about who is willingly in your bedroom and what you two are doing together.

They DO care about twisting the ACTUAL meaning of words into something they NEVER were in order to gain undeserved privilege in the legal system WITHOUT going through a single legislative / judicial system.

Hey! Lets just call raping common law “marriage”! You see what changing the actual definition of the word does to the legal system and the basis it was written on???

The Left is more egalitarian it accepts gays women and minorities of faith . Left wingers want more regulations in the economy to curtail unrestrained capitalist and want to increase safety standards and give workers a stronger voice. Left wing is more secular and wants a clear separation of church ⛪ and state. Left wing wants government to work for the people and not a select few. Left wingers wants to uplift people with educational programs that inspire people to be more productive. Leftwing wants healthcare to be free instead of a select few people making money from people choice of living or dying.

Want to live on Mars. Or, northern most points of this landmass. When I think about Politics, I wanna just barf. Its become a slingfest. Horrible reality show, that what this government is viewed as, by the whole rest of the world. Its a shame that about 50 years ago, this was a cool place to be. We were moving in the right directions, plus the music was still good. We finally got around to having different presidential candidates than just 60 yr old white haired white men, but just in time!!!- because here in the US of A we’re floating in a public toilet. Our values have gone to crap, our manufacturing standards have gone to hell or better, overseas. Embarrassing. Politics? Just another embarrassment. On tv, for the whole world to watch. USA needs to be great again, but not in Trumps way, in a well thought out way- and approved by all of us. We the People.
