Difference Between iPad and Archos

iPad vs Archos

A possible competitor to the iPad is the Archos Internet tablet. It is very similar to the iPad in terms of looks and functionalities but differs in many ways. To start off, the iPad runs Apple’s own iOS, which you would also find on the iPhone while the Archos uses Google’s Android. Although Android is relatively new, it has improved a lot since it was released and is already competitive with iOs and Windows Mobile.

A major advantage that the Archos has over the iPad is the presence of Flash. Flash is the software used by many websites to show video; the most prominent of which is YouTube. Since the iPad does not have Flash, it cannot show most of the videos found online.

When it comes to the hardware, there are also a lot of differences between the two. Something that you should immediately notice is the difference in size. Despite being longer than the iPad, the Archos is thinner and narrower compared to the iPad. The Archos also has the bigger screen as its diagonal measures 10.1 inches compared to the 9.7 inch screen of the iPad. You should take note that there are versions of the Archos with smaller screens. The Archos also wins out in terms of weight as it is lighter than iPad by 200 grams.

The Archos is only equipped with 16GB of internal memory while the iPad comes in 16, 32, and 64GB versions. For those who want more memory with the Archos, purchasing a memory card is the only option. The Archos accommodates SD cards of up to 32GB and the ability to switch cards mean you can have as much memory as you want.

Lastly, the Archos is equipped with a front facing camera, which is not found on the iPad. The camera could be used in a variety of ways but the most common way of using this camera would be with messaging applications that allow the user to conduct video calls over Wi-Fi. There are a number of applications that offer this functionality and it is up to the user to choose the one to use.

Summary:

1. The iPad runs iOS while the Archos uses Google’s Android

2. The iPad lacks Flash while Archos has it

3. The iPad is bigger than the Archos

4. The iPad has a smaller screen compared to the Archos

5. The iPad has more internal memory while the Archos has a memory card slot

6. The iPad does not have an integrated camera while the Archos does

  1. Please update this comparison with the specifications of the second-generation iPad. The iPad 2 does indeed have a front-facing camera, as well as a rearward-facing camera capable of shooting in high-definition (HD). The iPad 2, as with the first generation of iPad, is able to play YouTube videos. The iPad 2 is also thinner than both the Archos 7 and Archos 10 tablets.
