Difference Between Roomba and Deebot

Love them or not, household chores are an inevitable part of our daily lives, particularly cleaning. This is probably why the demand for smart homes has significantly skyrocketed in the last couple of years, more so since the Covid-19 pandemic. Particularly, the robot vacuum cleaners market has seen a massive surge since the pandemic, and it’s easy to understand why. Robot vacuums do all the heavy lifting by managing the most crucial household thing – cleaning. Two of the biggest names in the smart home solutions are iRobot and ECOVACS, and their signature offerings, Roomba and Deebot. But with so many great options, choosing the right one can be a bit tough. No worries! We’ve got it covered.

What is Roomba?

Roomba is a series of autonomous robot vacuums sold by iRobot, a leading consumer robot company based in Bedford, Massachusetts. Roombas are among the most popular consumer robot vacuum cleaners in the market. It’s a series of compact yet efficient robots that automatically guides itself around, cleaning your house like a conventional cleaner, without any human interaction.

What is Deebot?

Deebot is a series of self-emptying floor cleaning robot vacuums sold and marketed by ECOVACS Robotics, a leading auto-cleaning robots company headquartered in Suzhou, China. ECOVACS has been in the smart home robotics market for over two decades, and has a global reach to 145+ countries. Since its founding in 1998, ECOVACS has expanded from its home market in China to span all the major marketplaces worldwide.

Difference between Roomba and Deebot

For this article, we’re going to compare the Roomba i7+ and the Deebot N8 Pro+

Cleaning

 – Both the Roomba i7+ and the Deebot N8 Pro+ are great self-emptying robot vacuums that really do a great job cleaning your house while also saving you a great deal of time. The Deebot N8 Pro+, however, is pretty efficient with its cleaning because it moves in a zigzag pattern rather than going in random directions. Also, the N8 Pro+ has two side sweeping brushes that help funnel the dirt and dust into the underside brush versus the single one you’ll find on the Roomba i7+.

Navigation

– One of the biggest challenges for robot vacuums is avoiding obstacles while cleaning. The Deebot N8 Pro+ does a fairly good job with obstacle detection by leveraging what ECOVACS calls TrueDetect technology. It uses lasers to detect and avoid obstacles on the floor to deliver a powerful cleaning without collisions. The Roomba i7+ uses a camera-based navigation system to take thousands of photos in order to create a rudimentary 3D image of your house. Besides that, both the robots clean very efficiently on the hardwood floor.

Containment

– Both the Roomba i7+ and the Deebot N8 Pro+ use the HEPA quality filtration to capture 99% of the dust, mites, and allergens while cleaning. The Roomba i7+ learns your floor plan using Imprint Smart Mapping technology, allowing you to control which rooms are getting cleaned and when. It also has multiple containment options including the physical containment from the dual mode virtual wall barriers, and then there’s the digital containment thing that you can use via the mobile app. The Deebot N8 Pro+, however, doesn’t have any physical containment options.

Price

– Pricing factor is one of the biggest differentiators among robot vacuums. Both the Roomba i7+ and the Deebot N8 Pro+ are pretty much in the top end of the spectrum. The Deebot N8 Pro+ is a pricey high-end hybrid robot that sells for about $600. The Roomba i7+ is one of the best robot vacuums on the market, and probably one of the most preferred choices among consumers, only those who can afford it. The i7+ sells for about a whopping $800.
