The terms cold and cool are consistently used to refer to the prevailing weather conditions, especially concerning the temperatures of a specific location. However, people do not understand the difference between the two terms. It is common to find an individual using the term cold and cool interchangeably or in the place of one another which leads to ambiguity and confusion among other people. This article is focused on elaborating the difference that exists between the terms cool and cold.

 

What is Cold?

The term cold is used to represent or to mean very low temperatures, which are approaching freezing point. A region, which has extremely low temperatures, is described to be cold. Moreover, during the winter seasons, temperatures are described as cold because they are close to the freezing point while in some regions the temperatures reach freezing point.

 

What is Cool?

The term cool is used to describe current weather (temperature) conditions, which can be described as moderate. At this level, the temperatures are low concerning the body temperatures but are not near freezing point or high to the point where they can be described as warm.

Cool temperatures are much higher from the freezing point and close to warm temperatures.

The degree of the temperatures between cold and cool are significantly different. Cold has very lower temperatures than cool which are moderately low. This means that cold is an extreme condition, which represents low temperatures. Therefore, the two terms are relative to one another with cold highlighting very low temperatures near freezing point or below freezing point while cool represents moderate temperatures, which lie between cold temperatures to warm temperatures.

The two terms are distinguished by the fact that they fallow under a different classification of words in the English language. The term cold is an adjective, which represents low temperatures as compared to the temperatures of the human body. This means that the temperature outside the body is lower than those in the body which makes the body to respond to the prevailing conditions by wearing warm clothes. On the other hand, cool is a noun, which is used to describe lack of heat or warmth in the surrounding environment.

The other difference that the two terms can be used to describe personalities of different individuals. The term cold is used to describe unfriendly individuals who have to emotional affection towards other people within their surroundings. Moreover, the term cold is used to describe the ignorance nature of an individual who does not respect the opinion of other persons. On the other hand, the term cool is used to describe a welcoming an friendly personality of an individual. Cool people are considered friendly and attractive. Besides, a cool person does not have controversies and is always doing the right things while at the same time following rules and regulations.

5) Occurrence of Cool and Cold

Both cool and cold temperatures do not occur at the same time. It is important to highlight that the current temperatures of a certain region are either cold or cool, but there is no circumstance when the two will prevail simultaneously. Moreover, it is important to highlight that freezing temperatures are prevalent during the winter seasons. Moreover, it is also worth noting that the temperatures in the early morning or late at night are described as cold. On the other hand, cool temperatures occur during the day when there is cloud cover preventing direct sunlight from heating the atmosphere of the earth.

Many people and animals do not prefer cold temperatures while cool temperatures are preferred because they provide a conducive environment where individuals can implement various plans and objectives without scorching sun. It is important to highlight that cold temperature causes the common cold and other diseases among individuals because they provide a conducive environment for diseases causing organisms to thrive. Moreover, no plants are growing in cold seasons, which cause hunger and drought among humans and animals.

7) Regions

Both cool and cold temperatures occur in different regions around the world. Regions, which are within the tropics, are considered to be warmer. However, regions which are next to the tropics are cool and only cold during the winter season. This I not the same for the arctic regions which are far from the topics which are cold in most periods of the year and only cool or warm during the summer season which lasts for few months.
