Wow.. very informative, thank you… I actually thought they were both turnips. This would explain why I had a “turnip” dish that I loved, but when I bought some to make myself, it was a bitter taste in comparison. I guess I’m more partial to rutabagas.

Never too old to learn something…. I make my mashed potatoes and add a cook rutabaga… Obviously, I was wrong about 2 things.
I use one small one, cubed (called them turnips) but I always get the ugly ones that are orange when cooked … to 5 lb of white potatoes; Now that I have called by the wrong name… I know now why it is much sweeter. It is a cross between a turnip and cabbage! ( If you use the turnip instead, the potatoes are bitter….) turnip is round and white…. Do not overpower the white potatoes with the rutabaga… and make the way you make the reg mash… You will get compliments abound… FYI, my secret ingredient is 2 tbsp of mayo…. and , I do use btr and sour crm. s & p…
