    In Science (thermodynamics), it’s just defined as:

    Water dissolved in air = steam (which is ALWAYS invisible).
    Water not dissolved in air = water vapor (which is sometimes visible) .

    Absolute Humidity = (steam+water vapor)/volume = Total Water/Volume.
    Relative Humidity = water vapor/volume.

    Think of salt being dissolved in water.
    Only so much dissolves at certain temperatures, the rest is undissolved.
