    Thanks, I was downloading some fonts and was curious about the difference between otf and ttf files. I didn’t recognized the otf file since I was used to ttf. This was very helpful.

    You refer to Compact Font Format as CCF. It just looks like it should be CFF.

    curious if a new font format will emerge – easier to make ( like ttf ) and with all the new advantages ( otf )

      No. The reason it is harder is because it has more advantages.

    Thanks for this clear explanation. As I understand if the only disadvantage is making the OTF fonts, but there are no real disadvantages for using fonts. Only’s advantages as far as I can see…

    At this point, we should mention that there is a significant difference between the way Windows handles TTF and OTF. OTF fonts look sightly “out of place” and having an uncomfortable pixel smoothing effect. TTF seems to be rendered much better.

      otf fonts are used in high quality graphic works/designs,
      so it may look ugly in low display monitors.
