So which one do we schedule in project management, tasks or activities?

You schedule “Tasks”, because a project in itself is an undertaking with a specific goal. Tasks are subsets of that undertaking.

      Example:

Activity – “calculate budget” or “budgeting”
Task – “calculate yearly budget since 2010”

Is it correct to say that “task” is an assignment to be accomplished while “activity” are those work done to accomplish the task?
