Difference Between Quartz and Corian

Quartz vs Corian

The most popular kitchen countertop materials are quartz and Corian. Quartz is a natural material while Corian is the brand name of acrylic surfaces produced by DuPont. They have many differences ranging from appearance to price and durability.

Corian
Corian is a polymer offering surfaces in many designs and shapes. It also offers various joints and sinks to fit in different kinds of places. In case of damage, Corian can be restored to its previous beauty. Corian comes in a matt finish. Although with the advent of newer fabrication techniques, the shine may be incorporated into Corian. It is offers a seamless appearance. It is available in a variety of colors and finishes. Corian is available in half inch and three-quarter inches of thickness. The installation cost is around $30 and above.

While Corian is both a designer’s and buyer’s delight, it has its own limitations. This acrylic product can be easily scratched and scorched. However, the scratches may be repaired with polishing and sanding at later stages. The prime qualities of this material include its non-porous, colored, stain-resistant surface which is easy to clean and repair.

Quartz
Quartz is a durable and low-maintenance option for countertops. It is a 93 percent natural and 7 percent manmade product. The manmade constituents include pigments and resin binders. Due to this it is also called Engineered Stone.
Quartz is available under various trade names as Silestone, Arena Stone, Apollo, Caesarstone, etc. The Quartz countertops made by DuPont have been named Zodiaq. It is a durable and non-porous material. This product has a uniform, lustrous finish.
Quartz is hard, but it may get scorched but only by very hot pans. The seams of this material are visible, but they may be well hidden if a good installer is used. These countertops are easily available within a price range of $50 to $90 per square foot.
The high point of this material is its durability and its resistance towards scratches, heat, and corrosion. It may last for a lifetime. Because of its non-porous character, it provides resistance towards bacterial invasions.

Summary:

1.Corian is cheaper than quartz.
2.Corian countertops may get scratched and scorched while quartz is scratch resistant.
3.Corian can be restored while quartz cannot be restored.
