““Shruti” refers to those texts which have been finally written down after remembering the texts for hundreds of years with the help of memory and passed on from a guru to his disciples. “Smriti” were the texts which were not yet written down but just remembered and passed on from one generation to other”

This is completely wrong. Please see wikipedia entries for better definitions. Shruti is not written down. And also “hundreds of years” is a naive opinion. Shruti has been repeated over 2700 years even by modest estimates. Traditional concept is that shruti has no beginning. It is written down for convenience in modern times, but learnt *only only* orally.

I don’t blame the author of this article for overlooking the overwhelming similarity between the Gathas(oldest zoroastian texts) and the Vedas(0ldest hindu texts). The historical data on Zoroaster is conflicting, one set of data suggests he lived 6K years ago, another set suggests 2.5k and academics trend to the latter date. My own belief is there were two people named Zoroaster who lived at both these times but this is a minority view. But what can’t be ignored is that the Gathas are twins to the Vedas in every way, linguistically, stylistically and theologically. The connection between the religions is obvious and must not be ignored due to the controversy over the dating of Zoroaster.
