I’m surprised how accurate this article is. Granted, it isn’t complete by any means, and doesn’t go into the mathematical aspects of it, but it deals with the application domain knowledge of the FIR and IIR filters pretty well.

Just a note: the last word of the 1st paragraph should be *causal*, not casual 🙂

Hi.. I noticed that causal spelling error too.
Jesse.. are you available to do a filter design for a start up.. rather complicated beast?

    FIR
    recursive.
    no feedback.
    stable.
    easy to control.
only zero so required much memory.

    IIR
    non recursive.
    have feedback.
    unstable.
    difficult to control.
have zero and poles so required less memory.

      @Rohit

      I like your table….

But, I believe you associated “recursive” with the wrong filter type.

My understanding is that FIR filters are not recursive
where as IIR filters are recursive.

Nicely mentioned difference in tubular form.

CAN you please explain me the physical meaning of linear phase and nonlinear phase? if IIR output is infinite then how we could use this, can we truncate the output? pls reply

Q: What is the drawback of IIR?
    a) unstable
    b)non-linear curve
    c)causal
    d)none of above
