Army vs Navy

Based on the National Security Act of 1947, the United States has a military organizational structure which has similarities with the act created that restructured the “War Department” to the “Department of Defense,” and created the U.S. Air Force. From the said security act, five military branches have been created, namely; the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard.

These five branches have continuously showed superb performance in giving protection to the country. Soldiers may have been given a lot of tribute and respect, but not everybody can determine the difference between the five branches especially the Army and the Navy.

America’s Army has the function of protecting and defending the country with ground troops, armories, artillery, helicopters, nuclear weapons, etc. It is the oldest and biggest branch of the military services. This is because of the vast land area of the United States. This being said, it is right to say that the military is in charge of giving protection to the land of the country. They serve as the main ground force of the United States.

The Navy, on the other hand, is tasked to maintain peace and freedom of the U.S. seas. It is through the Navy that America can utilize the seas when the national interest requires it. They are also tasked to transport Marines into the areas of conflict. Unlike the Army, however, the Navy does not have a group of Naval National Guards.
Their areas of responsibilities, nonetheless, are not the only things that distinguish them from one another. The Army is headed by a four-star general called the Army Chief of Staff. He is tasked to send reports to the Secretary of the Army about the conditions of the soldiers in the areas of conflict. He also oversees the operations of the Army.

On the other hand, the Navy is commanded by the Chief of Naval Operations who is a four-star admiral. He sends reports to the Secretary of the Navy along with the Marine Corps Commandant.
Both the Army and the Navy can assist the other branches such as the Air Force. The Army works with them through attack helicopters, while the Navy sends help with an aircraft carrier that transports fighters or fighter-bombers. Simply put, the Army can be the attackers themselves while the Navy transports the attackers when they assist the Air Force.
Aside from transportation, though, Navy pilots can also operate on land bases for training and communications. They may fly helicopters for search-and-rescue operations and logistical purposes. The Army simply focuses more on land-based military activities and rarely crosses boundaries. They may operate small numbers of seagoing crafts but are mostly anchored in land areas.
The two also differ with the vessels used during conflicts. The Army, having to protect the grounds and land-area of the U.S., utilizes tanks and artillery. They attack the terrorist at a close proximity. The Navy, however, can attack targets from miles away using heavy guns and cruise missiles. Submarines equipped with ballistic missiles for quick attacks are also utilized. Aside from these, the Navy also uses vessels and large ships to transport Marines.
