Difference Between Blizzard and McFlurry 

Nothing is more refreshing on a hot sunny day like a good ice cream treat. Although many people are trying to live on the healthy side, a treat once in a while does no harm. Innovation and creativity has led to the creation of different types of food, be it burgers, nuggets, ice creams, milkshakes just to name a few. Blizzard and McFlurry are a favorite for most people in America. 

 

What is Blizzard?

Blizzards are Dairy queen’s signature shake, which has been popular since the year 1985. The name blizzard originated from the fact that they are always very cold, and can be held upside down without any spillage. Blizzards have a variety of flavors, from oreo cheesecake, peanut butter waffle crisp, French silk pie, mint oreo, rum raisin, cappuccino almond, strawberry banana, peanut butter oreo, green tea choco chunk, and Butterfinger blizzards just to name a few. 

 

What is McFlurry?

This is a brand of flavored ice cream that has been a favorite for many people. It consists of soft serve vanilla flavored ice cream which is then whipped, and different toppings are then added. Some of the toppings used are; M&M, butterfinger, snickers, rolo, oreo, twix, praline, and cream and reese’s peanut butter cup. It is distributed by the popular fast food chain restaurant, McDonald’s. It was first sold in 1995, in Canada. 

 

Similarities between Blizzard and McFlurry

  • The basis of both is ice cream
  • Both help in economic growth through the creation of revenue and employment creation.
  • Both have a great market in the food market segment
  • Both offer seasonal flavors. For instance, blizzard offers October’s pumpkin pie and June’s cotton candy while McFlurry offers Terry’s chocolate orange for Christmas.  

 

Differences between blizzard and McFlurry

  1. Different brands

Blizzard and McFlurry are sold and distributed by different brands. While blizzard is sold by dairy queen, McFlurry is sold at McDonald’s.

Blizzard and McFlurry have different flavors and toppings. Blizzard has flavors such as oreo cheesecake, peanut butter waffle crisp, French silk pie, mint oreo, rum raisin, cappuccino almond while McFlurry has flavors such as M&M, butterfinger, snickers, rolo, oreo, twix, praline and cream.

Blizzard was first sold in 1985 while McFlurry was first sold in 1995.

Blizzard is more expensive that McFlurry, by a price range of around 30%.

Both blizzard and McFlurry offer amazing ice creams and are largely consumed in America and other countries. However, as much as one would like to indulge in these delicacies, it is important to be cautious of the amount one takes. Too much sugar has its health risks, which are undesirable. However, indulging once in a while does no harm.
