wtf jake. that was hilarious, but uneducated. anyways, this modernism vs postmodernism is highly interesting. for one, is the past really connected to the present? id say yes. things change all the time, but we can see traces of what was once there. a specific set of events has to occur before producing another one. also, is reason universal? this gives me a headache. using human reasoning and deduction may just be in our heads. it is how we try to deal with reality. I thought reasoning was something to rely on, but now it is just another way of thinking to me. Approaching things irrationally however, sounds counterproductive. If everything was irrational, then the universe would have no order. However, through lots of scientific studies, we can see the universe can only work under specific conditions. Nothing can ever break a physical law, since it would require more energy than is available. The only time in history physical laws were able to break was during the big bang, when an unimaginable amount of energy was concentrated in a single place.

how can you say that modernism was focused on creating “a clear and rational view” of anything when it was so focused on highlighting the subjective. Furthermore, none of the modernist literature I’ve read puts any emphasis on logic, in fact, it seems to portray most aspect of realism as misguided

Modernism focusses on an objective approach. It’s focus is society-social context more than the individual. Like how the social fabric is shaping human lives etc. rather than having a subjective approach as is the case in post modernism, where the focus is on the individual and the narrative is more protagonist focusses-like circular narrative, stream of consciousness technique. Although I would love to learn more on this subject.

This article has many errors. But to particularly say that postmodernists were political and modernists were not show a lack of nuanced understanding about both movements.

Modernists were quite political – many were fascists and Nazis. Many were pissed because the Education Act of the 19th century meant there was a new readership, who preferred novels like Treasure Island, rather that the literary novels that were being written by the like of Bernard Shaw and T.S Eliot.

And given that Cubism and the Avant Garde traditions grew out of modernism you can hardly say they were striving for rationality and clarity.

yes true there is a difference but only among WHITES but people in Africa were modernized since I mean people used not to move naked used not to spread dirt everywhere for sure if you want to find more about this visit a country like Uganda or call 0702573408 Africans had even technology and even used to put there ART or paintings on rocks visit Uganda,Egypt and the whole Africa you will witness but since then some saw it as a misfortune blacks to have such so my Friend compare things after a great research or with a non selective research because its like you mean some people lived first before others even the oldest skull is in Africa thanx i will always be there to learn and to correct so that we all benefit.

Modernists were not concerned with politics? How about the birth of democracy and just about every political advantage we know enjoy?!

Moreover, technological developments up to now are grounded in the scientism of a modernist worldview.

Postmodernist contributions? Nothing. It is little more than a return to ancient tribal thinking, totally naive and worthless. Was modernism perfect? No. Needs some correction? Yes. But, things are clearly off the rails when touting irrationality, Tabula Rosa, and the idea that history is disconnected.
