I wear a head scarf and long sleeve maxi dress ( abayah). My understanding is because these pieces of clothing cover my body modestly, allowing my face and hands exposed I’m wearing hijab. If also includes my behaviour dressing modestly also applies to men

This is incorrect, the hijab refers to the dress code for Muslim women, with all of its conditions. The Khimar is only one part of the hijab, or can be one part of the hijab, as there are other head coverings that can be used, such as the burka. Our mother, Aisha (رضي الله عنها) described the khimar as that which covers the head, neck and bosom (breast).

word Hijab is not mentioned any were in Quran. Khimar only mean cover so if you go through entomology you will see that head cover is used for khimar only in modern dictionary.

In the Qur’an a Hijab is a partition, a wall, and it is not a headcovering for Muslim women, and it’s a shame that Muslims males and females study the Qur’an for 30 days during Ramadan, but we are using non-Muslims descriptions of Muslim Religious culture for women, such as (Hijab), when the headcovering for Muslim women is the (Khimar) this is in the Qur’an, 24: 31 An Noor (The Light), and in many other Surah.
And those Muslims who are fluent with reading and writing Qur’anic Arabic should know better and do better, about teaching the truth concerning Hijab and Khimar and especially Al-Islam.
As Muslims we must take ownership of what we profess to Believe and practice, the Qur’an and Al-Islam.

Brother or sister. Please don’t talk about things you don’t know. In reality, Khimar is derived from an Arabic word Khi-mii-ru. Which means to cover.. it is not explicitly said that it means “cover head”. So something which is used to Khi-mii-ru is known as Khamar. It is not limited to the head only. It may as well refer to the covering of the whole body or any covering in general which may include face or as well exclude it. It is not only limited to head covering. And I am not talking on my behalf. I have Quranic ayahs, hadeeth and massive dictionaries of classical Arabic to back me up. If you want references I can give you. Just ask. May Allah guide you.
